Unit 1 : Introduction & Getting Started

In this first session together we will look at the various options available to publish your ebook, and why doing it yourself, using the same software that mainstream publishers use, is the right choice.

Unit 2 : Downloading & Installing the SIGIL Software

In this session we will download and install the free Sigil software that you will be using to prepare your manuscript and convert it to the EPUB standard format used by most ebook retailers.

Unit 3 : Converting to HTML & Importing HTML into Sigil

In this session I will show you how to take your Microsoft Word file, or a similar file format, convert it to clean HTML and then import the HTML into Sigil to work on your ebook file.

Unit 4 : Inserting Chapter Breaks

In this session I’ll show you how to insert chapter breaks inside your Sigil file, and then convert these breaks into individual chapter files.

In this session I’ll show you how to add, delete and move pages within your Sigil file.

Unit 7 : Adding, Editing & Deleting Images

In this session I’ll show you how to import images into your eBook and place them into your eBook file. I’ll also show you how easy it is to move or delete images once you have imported them.

In this session I’ll show you how to create the logical Table of Contents file (toc.ncx) that your eBook requires, as well as a new page containing a clickable Table of Contents.

In this session I’ll show you how to set your metadata and then validate your EPUB file using Sigil’s Flightcrew plugin. If you pass the validation first time then you are ready to publish your eBook!

In this session I’ll explain how to install a style sheet into your EPUB file, and how to use it to alter the formatting of your eBook quickly and easily. I’ll also provide you with some sample CSS files that you can import and use yourself.

Unit 13 : Converting Your EPUB to the MOBI File Format

In this session I’ll show you how to convert the EPUB file you created in Sigil into the mobi file format that you will need to publish your eBook in the Kindle store.

In this session, we look at the new Kindle Create software, and consider how it can help you to publish your eBook.

Unit 15 : Using Calibre as an Alternative to Sigil

In this session, we look at how you can use another software application, called Calibre, to replace or shortcut some of the steps that we have taken in Sigil.
