At balloonview , we gauge the sucess of our educational materials entirely on how well they are received by teachers, and how often they are used in the classroom. That's why we work with our clients to establish a specific curriculum need for their message, and then identify the teachers who can help us to deliver it.

From the initial concept we co-ordinate each project with a team of educational writers, illustrators and designers to create engaging and attractive magazines, classroom resources, lesson plans, websites, CD-ROMs, and books.

Illustration and cartoons

We work closely with a number of illustrators, and are able to provide illustration for a range of media, styles and budgets. When we were developing magazine spreads for Channel 4 we found Ian Ellery, an amazing illustrator and cartoonist, who was able to provide exactly the style that Channel 4 were looking for. As many of our clients are aware, we set up balloonview because of concern at the number of educational materials that were being developed by public relations agencies. They look fabulous, but under the surface the curriculum relevance is often questionable, with the result that the resource rarely makes it into the classroom. Fairtrade Action Guide for schools

Balloon View is delighted to be working with the Fairtrade Foundation to develop an eye-catching and colourful brand for its Fairtrade for Schools Award. Our role is to develop a co-ordinated education pack range comprising an Action Guide, certificate, poster, promotional flyers and website branding. These will be used by The Fairtrade Foundation to raise awareness of the programme and award within UK primary schools.

‘We are extremely excited to be working on such a prestigious project as this one’, says Balloon View’s Managing Director Edward Peppitt. ‘Fairtrade is a brand that is instantly recognisable, and we are proud to be part of such a worthy initiative. We are confident that Fairtrade’s education pack will encourage primary schools throughout the UK to take fair trade seriously’.

Fresh face for English Heritage!

The opportunity to work with English Heritage was one that we jumped at! Who wouldn’t want to work with such a high profile and prestigious organisation? Even their education headquarters, based in Brunel’s railway workshops in Swindon, are a sight to behold. English Heritage is the national leader in heritage education, aiming to help teachers and those involved in education at all levels to use the historic environment as a resource, right across the curriculum.

Focus groups for the QCA

Balloon View was chosen to organise and host a series of regional focus groups with primary teachers for QCA Enterprises, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority). Its mission is to develop, disseminate and promote the QCA's intellectual property for the benefit of learners and increased effectiveness of educators.

We recruited teachers with a broad cross-section of subject experience, then organised the events themselves. We hosted and chaired each event, making audio recordings of what was discussed. We then encapsulated the findings in a comprehensive report and presented it, with the audio recordings, to QCA Enterprises.

ss GB launches education pack!

In May 2007, it was an honour to be invited to witness the official launch of the ss Great Britain’s education pack for primary schools. Often our role in developing educational resources ends the day the materials are delivered to the client. So it was wonderful to witness the launch, attended by the press, many VIPs and a class of unbelievably well behaved primary children!

Maritime & Coastguard Agency

We have just completed a six month project to develop a suite of educational resources for the Maritime & Coastguard Agency. The completed resource includes lesson plans, posters, teachers notes, children's activities and whiteboard applications, all with a water safety theme.

"This was our most satisfying project to date. We worked with an incredibly dedicated and motivated team at the MCA, and used PSHE professionals throughout the project to develop the educational content. The result is a colourful, fun and exciting resource that we are confident will be widely used within the Primary sector".

The education pack is due to be launched in September 2006, and will be free to download for all primary school teachers.

ss Great Britain takes shape!

ss Great Britain classroom testing

After three and a half months, Brunel's ss Great Britain nearly has is own education pack! The materials are all but complete, and they are currently being tested in a series of classrooms in primary schools around Bristol. Feedback from the children so far is fantastic, particularly as the education pack includes a number of board games, puzzles and other fun activities. So we are on course for making the education pack available from December 2006.
